The University of California, Irvine (UCI or UC Irvine)[8] is a public research university in Irvine, California. UCI is one of the ten campuses of the University of California system, and offers 87 undergraduate degrees and 129 graduate and professional degrees, enrolling roughly 30,000 undergraduates and 6,000 graduate students as of Fall 2019.[5] The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities โ Very high research activity", and had $436.6 million in research and development expenditures in 2018.[9][10] UCI became a member of the Association of American Universities in 1996.[11] The university is considered one of the "Public Ivies," meaning that it is among those publicly funded universities thought to provide a quality of education comparable to that of the Ivy League.[12][13]
