he fact that Limone Piemonte has a difficult angle in the Alps, could lead to a big mistake: thinking that the skiing in this area, has come as a consequence and has developed almost watching enviously as happened in the big stations. Curiously and rather unexpectedly Limone Piemonte is one of the protagonists not only of the history of skiing in Italy, but also of his own birth.
The beginning belongs to a past so remote as to put off even the late nineteenth century: in 1896 is the fact that 'Swiss engineer Adolfo Kind brought skis to the side of the Alps, explaining concretely use in a living room in Turin. It is not strange, then, that they were just Limone Piemonte Bardonecchia and the two Italian alpine resorts that, thanks to a convenient rail link with Turin, saw their slopes furrowed by these innovative "woods".
Interest in this new way of moving in the mountains received a significant success, especially on the part of the Alpine Corps who, having created a special department of "Alpini Skiatori", Limone Piemonte chose as the seat of their exercises. And soon it would be passed to competition: March 3, 1907 in fact, on the slopes of Monte Vecchio, some teams of five each mountain gave birth to a unique competition, facing a ski slope aimed to capture a flag report then, still skis, downstream.
The tune was established from Limone Piemonte with skiing, as well as competitiveness in the meantime developed with Bardonecchia, who led three friends from Cuneo to lay the foundations of what would later become the prestigious ski resort of Limone Piemonte. The first piece of this dream was the installation in 1937 of what was called "the ram": the first craft "ski lift" created in the south of Piedmont, able to overcome in those who used the 700 meters height difference separating the Colle di Tenda from the entrance of the tunnel tent to shelter "Three Amis" built a few years earlier near Cima Gherra. And a second "sledge" would be put into operation in Limone Piemonte the following year, covering the path of the current Chair of the sun.
With the Second World War stopped all activity and the development of skiing Limone Piemonte seemed to stop. However, as soon as the conflict ended, shooting everything as before and, in 1948, he inaugurated the first plant air of southern Piedmont: the single-seater chairlift of Cros. And four years later steps would be doubled in this facility with a second section, which, in sequence with the first, gave Limone Piemonte prestige can count on Italy's longest chairlift.
It took more than ten years, however, because Limone Piemonte does opt decisively for its transformation into a ski resort: it was in this perspective that in Christmas of '59 was opened seater chairlift of the Sun, allowing key now modern exploitation Ski this specific area through a direct connection with the country. Fourteen years later, in 1973, the single-seater chairlift would have given way to a double chairlift, opening skiers the beautiful slopes of Pian del Sole, of 'Alpetta, the Lakes, the Belvedere, along which in the sixties had been made the first ski lift.
But they are the Seventies to see Limone Piemonte become fully a ski resort that attracts large numbers of winter tourism in strong growth: the opening of the chairlift "Seiser Limonetto" can be used skis, the entry into operation of the ski lift "Pian del Leone" and the subsequent start of the connection between the area of Limone 1400 Limonetto and the country itself to Limone Piemonte will quickly the birth of the "Riserva Bianca" with ski pass and unified tariffs.
After a period of stagnation, in which undoubtedly as Limone Piemonte ski resort lost quite a few positions, the signal of a willingness to raise would have surfaced in the rethinking of the Sun started in the nineties: to disappear will be the two lifts twins "Ponds 1 -2 ", and to become the protagonist of this beautiful valley is the chairlift" Alpetta ", one of the first plants of Piedmont to use technology dell'agganciamento automatic.
However struck a turning point in Limone Piemonte ski resort will be as radical redesign developed by LIFT in collaboration with the municipal administration of the Alpine resort. Thanks to the public funds at the Winter Games in Turin in 2006, and thanks to great work of President Mr. Morzenti, will gradually be realized chairlifts "Cabanaira", "Pian del Leone-Pancani", "Belvedere", "Col di Tenda", "Carousel" and "Limonetto-Pernante" concluding the entire operation with a real icing on the cake: the entry into operation of the 8-person gondola "Campo Principe-Laghetti", able to bring in altitude skiers and snowboarders directly from the center of the country.
It is with this aspect completely renewed, able to surprise anyone for a few years he decided not to come to ski in Limone Piemonte, the new ski resort looks with hope to a future yet to be written and certainly able to go back again this location to be, as in the past, one of the most prestigious ski resorts in the Alps.
