HISTORY

Located in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia only minutes from Atlanta Hartsfield Airport you'll find Clark Atlanta University, the largest of the United Negro College Fund institutions. Clark Atlanta is a comprehensive, private, urban, coeducational institution of higher education, formed in 1988 through the consolidation of Atlanta University, the nations oldest graduate degree granting institution for African Americans, founded in 1865; and Clark College, a historically Black liberal arts institution founded in 1869.

Bestowed with an outstanding academic reputation, the university has been voted "Best Educational Buy" among the top five historically Black institutions, based on class size and graduation rate, by both Essence and Money magazines. They also possess one of the largest university research facilities in the Southeast.

CAMPUS LIFE

Academic offerings here are diverse for the approximately 5,900 students representing more than 50 countries and nearly every state in the nation, with 40 undergraduate, 37 masters, 7 dual-degree, 9 specialist, and 9 doctoral degree programs. This academic diversity has earned Clark Atlanta national academic rankings as third in the conferral of doctoral degrees in all disciplines; seventh in the conferral of master's degrees in all disciplines; ninth in the conferral of bachelor's degrees in communications; ninth in the conferral of master's degrees in math, computer science, and engineering; and in the top one percent in the conferral of bachelor degrees in all disciplines. Additionally, they have more faculty possessing Ph.D. degrees than any other private historically Black college or university in the nation.

Off campus activities for students include the APEX (African American Panoramic Experience) Museum; Atlanta Historic Museum; Stone Mountain Park; Fox Theatre; Six Flags over Georgia; Olympic Park; Underground Atlanta, a six-city block retail shopping center; Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site; and the Civil Rights Museum, among many other sites and attractions.
