He released a solo R&B album, Back to Then, in 2002 on Hidden Beach Recordings but did not chart any singles from it. Six years later, Rucker signed to Capitol Records Nashville as a country music artist, releasing the album Learn to Live that year. Its first single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It", made him the first African American to chart a number one on the Hot Country Songs charts since Charley Pride in 1983. It was followed by two more number-one singles, "It Won't Be Like This for Long" and "Alright" and the number three "History in the Making". In 2009, he became the first African American to win the New Artist Award from the Country Music Association, and only the second African American to win any award from the association. A second Capitol album, Charleston, SC 1966, was released on October 12, 2010, and was led off by the number-one "Come Back Song".

As a solo artist, Rucker's discography comprises three studio albums, including two for Capitol Records Nashville. Rucker's solo singles have all been released to the country format, where he has had five #1 singles: "Don't Think I Don't Think About It", "It Won't Be Like This for Long", "Alright", "Come Back Song", and "This".

Back to Then is the title of a solo album released by singer/songwriter Darius Rucker, lead singer of Hootie & The Blowfish. The album was a departure for him as this project was a contemporary R&B album, as compared to his group's pop/rock efforts.
In 2001, he recorded his solo debut album The Return of Mongo Slade for Atlantic Records. However due to contractual changes, it was never released. Rucker then signed with Hidden Beach Recordings and released Back to Then in July 2002.
The song "This Is My World" was used in the soundtrack for the film Shallow Hal.

Learn to Live is the second solo studio album by American country artist, Darius Rucker. The album was released September 16, 2008 on Capitol Nashville Records and was produced by Frank Rogers. Learn to Live was Rucker's first studio album marketed towards country music, and is also his first release since 2002 R&B release Back to Then. The album had spawned three number one singles on the Billboard country music chart: "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," "It Won't Be Like This for Long," and "Alright."
The album's lead single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" was released May 27, 2008. The song became Rucker's first number one single by September 2008, becoming the first African-American country artist to have a major hit since Charley Pride in the 1980s. Learn to Live debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and at #5 on the overall Billboard 200, selling 60,000 copies in its first week. As of February, 2010, the album has sold 1,298,274 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and has now been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, for shipments to retailers of a million copies. After releasing the album's second single in late 2008 entitled, "It Won't Be Like This for Long," the song became his second number one single on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The album's seventh track entitled, "Alright," was released as a single shortly afterward. The song became Rucker's third number one single on the Billboard country chart, spending two weeks at #1 in early August. On September 8, 2009, the album's fourth single, "History in the Making," was released, debuting at #51 on the Billboard country chart.

Charleston, SC 1966 is the third studio album and second country album from American artist Darius Rucker. It was released in the United States on October 12, 2010 through Capitol Nashville.
In a CMT, news-post, it was explained that the album title is derived from country music artist Radney Foster's 1992 album, Del Rio, TX 1959, which noted Foster's birthplace and birth year. Rucker said Foster's album "showed him the possibilities of country music.
The album debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200, and at number one on the Top Country albums chart selling 101,000 copies in its first week of release. In its second week of release, the album dropped to number ten on the Billboard 200, selling 37,000 copies. In its third week of release, the album jumped to number nine on the Billboard 200 selling 27,000 copies. As of the chart dated April 30, 2011, the album has sold 447,116 copies in the US. ...
