Patrick Depailler was a gifted and daring French Formula 1 driver whose career spanned the sport’s most perilous era. He competed in 95 Grands Prix between 1972 and 1980, driving for Tyrrell, Ligier, and Alfa Romeo, and earned two victories, 19 podiums, and 141 championship points.
Born in Clermont-Ferrand in 1944, Depailler was inspired by motorcycle racing and began his motorsport journey on a Norton Manx 500cc before transitioning to cars with help from Jean-Pierre Beltoise.
