Buena was born Rosa Isabel Mutya Buena in Kingsbury, London and as a child attended Kingsbury High School. She is of Filipino, Chinese, and Irish descent. On 23 March 2005, Buena gave birth to her daughter Tahlia Maya Buena, her first child with boyfriend Jay. The couple were separated for six months, but reunited in early 2010. She has two sisters, Ligaya and Dalisay, and five brothers, two of them named Bayani and Charlie. She had a third sister named Maya, who died in 2002, to whom Buena dedicated a song on the 2003 Sugababes album, Three.
