Aside from being one of the most original and interesting bands to spring from the American alternative rock scene, the Violent Femmes have also earned a reputation for being one of that scene's finest live acts. It's all the more tragic, therefore, that Viva Wisconsin is a failure on two levels. As a live album, it fails to capture the spontaneity, fun, warmth and humour that are the hallmarks of their live sets.
