Description:
After nearly 30 years in the music business, Chris de Burgh has long since given up trying to be a cool. Timing Is Everything is a collection of what he does best - crafted, simple lyrics about love, over catchy, inoffensive tunes. Apart from "Save Me" where a lyric about text messaging is sneaked in ("On my phone, it was an SMS
"), Chris mindset is still anchored in 1986, lusting after the semi-glam women of that era who wouldn't have looked out of place on the cover of "Good Housekeeping" back then. Tracks such as "Lebanese Night", "Guilty Secret" and "Love And Time&q
Tracks such as "Lebanese Night", "Guilty Secret" and "Love And Time" conjure up images of candle lit dinners in the local Berni Inn, shoulder pads, crimped hair and dodgy eye make-up. There's a distinct hint of Fleetwood Mac's eighties comeback single "Big Love" at the start of the saucy "If Beds Could Talk", and a rocky nod to Van Halen "Kiss" during the intro to "Bal Masquรฉ". Timing Is Everything confirms de Burgh's place in suburban life alongside china figurines, Artex walls and over-sized three-piece suites. Twee and tasteless to many--functional and pleasurable to others. --John Galilee
