Following a two-year studio hiatus, Sonicflood has returned with a release full of new material called This Generation and an anxious bunch of younger fans who feel like they've waited forever. The question now is was the wait worth it? Much like the band's 2003 Cry Holy release, you'll find a handful of compelling, dynamic tracks like "Everlasting," "Your Love Goes On Forever," and "Moment of Glory." Problem is that these pleasures are few and fare between. Sure, Rick Heil is surrounded by a new band culled from the likes of Matt Redman, LaRue, and Everlife. And while the new compadres provide a strong influence on the hard-edged title track as well as "Never Forget You," Sonicflood is still just Heil and a bunch of guys. Sonicflood's approach has gone from "worship songs" to "songs about worship." The anthem approach of the early days has been displaced by a smoother, more distilled sound driven by Heil's steady-state vocals. It's not that the music itself is bad or even disinteresting, but you would be hard pressed to find many tracks bound to be done by worship teams across the globe. --Michael Lyttle
