Claiming saxophone duty on a few tracks and cowriting credit on the majority of them, Ms. W seems perhaps poised to push the dance-pop envelope. She doesn't. From the opening track's dirty synth throb to the honeyed delivery of less-than-revolutionary lyrics ("all that glitters is not gold," "when you need a little shelter, you can run into these arms of mine"), and from the whooshes and zings to the requisite build-ups and break-downs, one gets the feeling that we've been here quite a few times before. This in itself is perhaps not a problem. Fans of sweet and peppy club-diva shenanigans could very well eat this stuff up, on especially the slightly gutsier latter half of the record. Anyone else is apt to go into sugar-shock after a few tracks. --Bob Michaels
