The String Quartet Tribute to Black Sabbath presents nine instrumental chamber arrangements of songs culled from the iconic metal outfit's most fertile years, roughly 1971-1973. It is performed by a Czech string quartet that includes violinists Petr Uhlir and Jan Alan, violist Jiri Masarik, cellist Pavel Malina, and the contrabass of Roman Finger. The musicians don't try to emulate Sabbath's deconstructed blues sludge; instead, they deliver a vibe similar to the disorienting creepiness of the group's best material. "Sweet Leaf" and "Iron Man" are imbued with hints of elegiac melody, courtesy of the violins. B
