If it works, as they say, why fix it? Offspring's Splinter, their seventh album, is delivered with much of their usual brio, seldom straying from the boisterous, semi-funky ska-pop that fuelled their 1994 mega-hit Smash. To a degree, this is a shame, as when they do stray they're a far more interesting proposition. The acoustic lament "Spare Me the Details", bemoaning the nefarious bedroom activities of a faithless girlfriend, is actually quite moving, while the closing string-swept "Prison Song" adds a touch of wit to proceedings. As for the rest, it is as you'd expect, from the ultra-rapid "Da Hui"
