The album combines firing hard bop, beautiful modal space and nu-jazz beats to create a sound described by Parisian label Le Maquis as "St Germain with attitude". The album is a catalogue of musical exploration through 20 years of listening and playing. Roughneck features an inspired jazz version of Eminem’s Lose Yourself, from the film 8 Mile. Another highlight of the album is an original arrangement of the Stanley Turrentine classic, Sugar, featuring the silky vocals of Iain Mackenzie. In May Eddie toured with sax legend Lou Donaldson, recreating his finest Blue Note recordings. Only the week before he was performing to packed audiences with the New Mastersounds at the House of Blues in Chicago. Eddie also worked with Mr Scruff on remixes of Ramsey Lewis’s ‘Do What You Wanna’ for Universal, and John Arnold’s ‘Inside’.
