A typical track alternates between moody impressionistic passages and urgent grooves driven by effective straight-ahead drumming. Things like odd vocal parts, radio sounds, or guitar noise often tweak the tunes. Verity Susman works wonders with her Farfisa. Her approach might evoke Question Mark & the Mysterians and other outfits that favor simple, catchy keyboard parts, but she definitely brings her own distinctive touch to the album. On "Gabriel," she pairs organ and glockenspiel to create a sparkling tone that lights up the track. The group branches out on "Many Peaks" and "The Boat"; the former features lovely piano, strings, and horns, while the latter is an eerie low-end soundscape.
