This disc was again recorded at the Thanksgiving 1995, November Tri-Centric Festival at the Knitting Factory.
Mr. Braxton has assembled a particularly strong ensemble here, with many of these players have been working with him in varied projects. Young reeds masters like Andre Vida and Brandon Evans are up to the difficult task of playing various saxes, clarinets & flutes along with Mr. Braxton in an ever-changing palette of combinations, textures and strategies.
As with all of the Ghost Trance Series pieces, the ensemble starts off playing their (16?) note line together and repeating it together. The distinctive sound of 3 reeds, trombone, el. violin, accordion, bass and drums, is what you first notice and what is fascinating from the beginning. What happens is the repeating line soon evolves as different players slowly shift and solo within the established pattern. First, percussionist Kevin Norton begins soloing and moving around the pattern, adding intersecting lines of his own. The ensembles breaks down to a smaller group as certain players lay out. Roland Dahinden takes an outstanding trombone solo as things calm down a bit. Slowly Ted Reichman on accordion, Braxton and Kevin Norton on vibes begin playing a variation on that opening theme again, as the other players start coming back in and joining the new version of that repeating line.. Jason Hwang takes a most mysterious, distant electric violin solo as Roland's trombone answers with a minimum of well-placed notes." - Bruce Lee Gallanter, DMG
