He likes to set strong melodies and perceptive lyrics against a caterwaul of sound, creating an initial impression of cacophonous chaos which, as patient listeners will find, is deceptive. "Flysmoke", for example, is edgy and nasal but it's also a pretty tune with an intelligent lyric, while "(Sometimes) I Have To Concentrate"--in another reality--could be a very cool blues groove. If punk godfather Richard Hell had been born 30 years later in Wales, he'd probably sound like this. Superb. --Johnny Black
