Recorded on a single afternoon in August 1961, this album marks an important turning-point in Konitz's career. Earlier, his alto saxophone playing had often been dismissed as abstract and bloodless. This was never really true, but the label stuck. After Motion, however, that accusation could never again be levelled. In form, the music is as simple as it could possibly be. Just Konitz, bass and drums, not even a piano or guitar to mark the harmonies, and five standard tunes.
