Farrelly brothers Bobby and Peter made imaginative use of Jonathan Richman's music in There's Something About Mary. Now another of their twisted romantic comedies, the Jim Carrey vehicle Me, Myself & Irene, arrives with a soundtrack disc literally half-full of Steely Dan covers by various modern-rockers and post-folkies. Needless to say, this mini-tribute album often fails to improve on the indelible originals, mostly because the singers fail to keep one eyebrow raised as Dan frontman Donald Fagen did so perfectly.
