Description:
Intensify is perhaps a good example of what can happen if you don't have the commercial pressures of the major labels on your back. When Balearic don Nick Warren and techno enthusiast Jody Wisternoff first got together it sparked off some genuine excitement within the newly emerging progressive scene. Signed up to the smaller but perfectly formed Distinctive imprint, the duo's second long player sees them trade euphoric fromage for a more refined and straight-to-the-point kind of sound. The Coldcut sampling "The Fall" inaugurates what is an undeniably well-sculpted and at times pleasantly imaginative trot through break
The Coldcut sampling "The Fall" inaugurates what is an undeniably well-sculpted and at times pleasantly imaginative trot through breaks and trance territory. Tracks like "Hypnotise" and "Shark Hunt" show just how good this pair can get when they're on form in both departments and even potentially cringeworthy vocal fare like "Stealth" comes off fairly well (though tracks like "Call Me" and "Mind Circus" teeter on the edge of underground respectability). Primarily there is a lightness of touch and a passion for dancefloor sounds at work here that makes this a very strong and satisfying second album. --Paul Sullivan
