james toth’s vocals have never sounded better too, often dylanesque, often delivered as rambling freeform narratives, the EP’s closing piece “war star days” is the perfect example- a driving, acoustic mantra, with scattered, incredibly engaging lyrics (as with all his work under the lone ‘wooden wand‘ moniker). A monumental EP and hopefully, a launch pad for the newcomer, to wand’s mighty back catalogue- not least this year’s “james and the quiet” full length on thurston moore’s ecstatic peace label.
