It wasn't until moving from her native Birmingham up to bonny Hexham that Heather discovered the fiddle. After experiencing her first ceilidh aged 13, she began to play at beginer's sessions under the watchful eyes of David Oliver and Chip Chamberlain who, after a few years, would be her regular playing companions in the Hedgehog's Skin Ceilidh Band. It was during that time that Heather developed as a player, performing with other bands including Gigue Fish, The Hydroholics and Folkestra (we she met and played alongside both Andrew and Seth).

Following a couple of years of fiddle tuition from the marvellous Chuck Flemming, she left Folkestra, embarking on a degree in American and Canadian Studies at the University of Birmingham.
A year in New Brunswick, Canada saw Heather join the Matthew Pearson band as a fiddle player and singer. This gave her growing confidence in her singing ability and on her return to the UK, she began regularly performing songs with Tyde in between tune sets.
