When the Stone Roses disbanded shortly after Second Coming, few people expected to hear any more from Ian Brown. After all, it was guitarist John Squire who had the talent, and Ian was a poor singer at best. It was rather unexpected, then, when the King Monkey's lo-fi debut, Unfinished Monkey Business, made a minor splash upon its release; at the very least, it was much better than Squire's dreadfully dreary Seahorses. Golden Greats effectively picks up where Unfinished left off, albeit with more emphasis on production this time around. Guitars, keyboards and samples abound in this trippy, groovy and occasionally rock & roll
