Description:
A quick listen to Midfield General's On The Floor at the Boutique quickly proves that he's a fan of his golden oldies, but that's no excuse for including "Devil In Sports Casual"--a tune that the General was spinning way back before the Fatboy came a long way, baby, and rocketed Skint into the world of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Still, the General--aka Damian Harris, Skint's founder, head A&R man, and all-round head honcho--calls the shots here, and if he wants to keep the halcyon days of the Big Beat Boutique in mind as he unveils his long-awaited debut album, Generalisation, then he's more than earned that right
A quick listen to Midfield General's On The Floor at the Boutique quickly proves that he's a fan of his golden oldies, but that's no excuse for including "Devil In Sports Casual"--a tune that the General was spinning way back before the Fatboy came a long way, baby, and rocketed Skint into the world of the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Still, the General--aka Damian Harris, Skint's founder, head A&R man, and all-round head honcho--calls the shots here, and if he wants to keep the halcyon days of the Big Beat Boutique in mind as he unveils his long-awaited debut album, Generalisation, then he's more than earned that right. It's an eclectic bag; Harris's delectation for rare grooves means that the pleasant, mellow soul homage of "Reach Out" reclines next to the cut-up old-skool acid of "You Take", but best of the bunch has to be the super-tweaked tech-house rumble of "General of the Midfield". Sure, Generalisation doesn't take as many risks as say, Lo Fidelity Allstars' How To Operate with a Blown Mind. But the General knows it'll still sound great in six months time, so don't knock it. Right?--Louis Pattison
