His stumbling between blear-eyed plodders "Sister Reneé" and "Fire Flies Take Flight", and the cathartic one take chug and scream of "Watching The Sun Come Up", gives the impression of chucked together doodles that just happen to come with fantastically musty atmospheres and sing-along choruses. Better still, Harcourt's sense of the macabre shows no sign of abating. Corrupting the album's infectious up-beat charm, the creepy strains of his Tom Waits meets Marilyn Manson goth-horror rock & roll, not only provide unshakable highlights in "Ghostwriter" and "Undertaker Strut", but offer a tingle in the spin which reminds that Ed Harcourt is so much more than just another singer-songwriter with a broken heart. --Dan Gennoe
