A Cambridge, Massachusetts, studio that has hosted a parade of emerging alt rock stars from the eastern seaboard since 1986, Fort Apache has now spun off its own label. The first signing, a tunefully dissonant band called Cold Water Flat, measures up well on this handsomely packaged sampler of the name acts--Dinosaur Jr., The Lemonheads, Come, Juliana Hatfield, Belly and Buffalo Tom included--who recorded chez Apache over the years.
