This was strange, as much of The Jam's latter material, "Beat Surrender", "Shopping", "Town Called Malice" etc was a pretty clear indication of the Style Council's soul-jazz leanings. The singles include the northern-soul stompers "Shout to the Top" and "Solid Bond in Your Heart", plus the blatant "Harvest for the World"-filching "My Ever Changing Moods" and sinuously seductive "Long Hot Summer". Wake up and smell the cappuccino, Daddio. --Chris King
