Burn Piano Island Burn

Musically, too, there's unexpected subtlety lurking beneath the bursts of explosive aggression: glockenspiel chimes ring out on the seething chorus of "Ambulance Vs Ambulance", while the creepy "The Salesman, Denver Max" compresses prettified passages of acoustic guitar between stormy, cast-iron crashes. Ross Robinson's production is satisfyingly precise, rendering the sound of mangled fretboard with gruesome clarity. Yet the whole of Burn, Piano Island, Burn is presented with such artful intention that the noise seems to be a way of cloaking a host of brooding enigmas, just waiting to be unlocked. --Louis Pattison
