Digital Underground's debut album was invigorating, thanks to the way founder Shock G. mixed samples, instruments, and voices in dizzying profusion. At the same time, the raps themselves were juvenile jokes about getting high and getting laid. One could only hope that Digital Underground would outgrow the dumb goofs and refine the aural montage.
