Among the most underrated of all '60s groups, the Lovin' Spoonful embodied a bright, folk-oriented pop sound built around leader John Sebastian's clever lyrics. Formed in Greenwich Village in 1964 (Steve Boone, Joe Butler, and Zal Yanovsky rounded out the Spoonful), the band broke up in 1968 after generating a respectable body of work. "Daydream" reached No. 2 on the English charts and was echoed by the Beatles' "Good Day Sunshine."
