Description:
Simple, overtly stupid, and utterly brilliant, the Ramones' self-titled debut stripped rock to its essentials and created a legacy of leather-jacketed clones. Their follow-up, Leave Home (also included, along with some fun demos, on this two-fer disc) was more of the glorious same. With Joey Ramone's adenoidal fake Brit accent and Johnny Ramone's chainsaw guitar, the Ramones thrived on a handful of lyrical ideas (brain damage, Three Stooges-like violence), and even fewer chords, constructing great pogo-friendly jokes ("beat on the brat with a baseball bat, oh yeah!"). Rock doesn't get any more primal, or fun. --Douglas
