Description:
Just a couple of tracks into Mad'house's Absolutely Mad it becomes apparent why Madonna is so "hopping" mad about this album of covers. Blending some of her biggest hits with popular Euro-pop styles of the last 15 years, the formulaic nature of this album will also offend her diehard fans. As well as the outdated "You See the Trouble with Me" style version of "Like a Prayer", other Maddy favourites such as "Like a Virgin" and "Everybody" get a Black Legend style makeover too (two years too late). Their unoriginal recording of "Holiday" mimics the 1998 unofficial Stardus
Their unoriginal recording of "Holiday" mimics the 1998 unofficial Stardust Vs Madonna bootleg mix of the track, and actually sounds worse than MC Miker and DJ Sven's dire "Holiday Rap". As well as the Ace of Base version of "La Isla Bonita", and their drum & bass murder of "Vogue", "Papa Don't Preach" suffers the indignity of having a "Can't Get You Out of My Head" type-backing track added to it. "Be Yourself" and "Lady of the Dawn" are the only two partial attempts at originality on the album, with the former track mixing new lyrics over an instrumental version of "Music". --John Galilee
