Wings of Desire review
Posted : 11 years, 2 months ago on 28 February 2013 12:09The film is so beautifully made, it's slow and surrealistic even though the setting is real. The angels are exactly what I think angels should be like if they existed. Miraculous but humane.
However, this is one of those films I find difficult to explain to other people. I mean, with works of art that deal with psychological matters, you either get the point or miss it.
But the English title is somewhat misleading.

A good movie

Still, I remember very well the first time I saw the damned thing. Indeed, at some point, I saw ‘Paris, Texas’, I was completely blown away by the whole thing and it immediately became one of the best movies I had ever seen. With this in mind, I was really eager to check Wim Wenders’s follow-up and since it had such a stellar reputation, I had some really high expectations. Well, to be honest, even though I did like this movie, I had actually a hard time to really care about the damned thing. I mean, sure, I was able to see that it was a real work of Art, no doubt about it, but, while I was completely swept away by ‘Paris, Texas’, this time around, I never felt much connection with this story or the characters involved. Eventually, 10 years later, they would actually deliver a Hollywood remake which is usually considered blasphemy for all the fans of this movie but I don’t think it was so awful, at least, if you don’t try to compare it to this German classic. Anyway, to conclude, even though it didn’t really fufill my expectations, it was still a decent watch, it remains major classic and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
