Goes down as One of My Favourite Comedies

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago on 7 December 2022 08:57

"What We Do in the Shadows" is a mockumentary about four vampires sharing a flat together.

Going into this movie knowing nothing but the above, I did not have any idea what to expect. What I got was one of the funniest movies of this year or any year for that matter. The jokes where brilliant and more importantly, they were frequent and consistently brilliant. I loved the interaction of the main characters with each other and the supporting characters.

Each of the main vampires had their moments and were all equally funny. The movie even had werewolves and they were also hilarious. I was also surprised by the special effects which were really well done.

At one point it did feel like the jokes were getting old, but just as I had finished that thought, the movie changes and ends brilliantly. Even though there isn't much of a story, it doesn't really matter for this movie. Just watching some of the hilarious chaos that ensues in their everyday life is enough.

There are not many movies that make me actually laugh out loud, but this one did on several occasions (usually comedies, even great ones, just keep me grinning through out). This is easily one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had at the cinema.

What We Do in the Shadows (2014) review

Posted : 7 years ago on 29 April 2017 03:13

I cannot review this as I don't remember what happened while watching this. Nah I'm just kidding, but you will get that joke if you watch this or have seen it.

Neutral Notes:
*This is Jemaine Clement's directorial debut, but he also wrote another film.
*As for Taika Waititi this isn't his first rodeo as he has several films including the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
*There aren't too many huge stars here, but if you know Flight of the Conchords you will recognize people here and there.
*I meant to see this when it came out, but I just never made the time.
*Thank goodness for Amazon and the ability to download to your phone nowadays.

Positive Notes:
*The acting was excellent.
*I loved the characters and how the different generations all acted with each other.
*This was truly hilarious if you like the type of humor.
*The mockumentary style added a nice touch of sillyness to the whole thing.
*I liked that there were a lot of people who went by their real names.
*It was a lot bloodier than I was expecting, but for me that's a good thing.
*Seeing vampires dealing with everyday issues is a pretty fun concept.
*I really enjoyed the ending and the movie as a whole.

Negative Notes:
*I would have liked more involvement from Petyr.

This was definitely worth checking out. It's funny and different. It will keep your attention for sure. I highly suggest seeing this whenever possible.
