What Dreams May Come review

Posted : 12 years, 5 months ago on 7 December 2011 12:36

There is something special about this movie but I have never been able to put my finger on what it is exactly. As I am so used to seeing Robin Williams come across as more of a comedian than an actor, this one delights me. Not only is the movie entertaining, but the messages it sends to us is magnificent. If you're ever feeling down in the dumps, this is definitely one to watch. It's all worth it in the end.

This is one of the most intelligent, emotional, and visually beautiful movies I have ever seen, and it’s my favorite one. It makes you really happy, it makes you sad. It is remarkable love story that you can see countless times.
I absolutely love this movie and I refuse to write more about it. Just see it.

An interesting failure

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Robin Williams, I thought I might as well give it a try. It was pretty much a flop when it was first released but it doesn’t mean that it was actually completely worthless. To start with, I have to admit it, the title was just way too cheesy. Furthermore, the main issue, in my opinion, like with many other dramas starring Robin Williams, even though the intentions are good, eventually, those movies are rather manipulative and they basically hit you like a sledge hammer with their sentimentality. Still, it remains an intriguing picture because it is not very often that you have the opportunity to see a Hollywood picture dealing with Death as a concept and what it means for us, human-beings. Indeed, in spite of its flaws, it is a very interesting study about Death and, above all, it was visually quite impressive (it even won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the time which was definitely deserved). To conclude, even though it doesn’t succeed on every level, this movie is still visually really striking, it develops some interesting ideas and, therefore, I think it is definitely worth a look.

I think the idea behind this is immense - and enjoyable visuals - great concept and Williams performance as per norm.
