Mercedes, a simple girl from Valladolid, marries a plenipotentiary minister. After the wedding, she accompanies him on a trip to America, where her husband must obtain an oil concession. While Patricio is forced to seduce the wife of a foreign minister, Mercedes, by chance, obtains important information from the diplomat.
