Very enjoyable fish-out-of-water comedy

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 25 March 2022 08:37

The story has a tendency to get on the tenuous side, but this is essentially a very enjoyable fish-out-of-water comedy. It is a one-joke concept but it does that rare thing, the whole film works. It is nicely filmed, the music is good, the direction is skillful, the film does move at a comfortable pace and the script has a lot of nice and funny touches. Beside these things some memorable scenes and the acting made me enjoy Twins even more. I especially loved Arnie's awkward attempt at romancing Kelly Preston, that was a real comedy highlight. Acting wise, both leads are on top form, Danny DeVito is hilarious as the dim-witted scuzzball and Arnie is endearing and handles the comedy well as the intelligent and naive genetically-engineered brother. The two teamed up again in Junior, that film wasn't as good or as entertaining, but I personally enjoyed it even with its problems. Twins for me will be the better film, because while it is one-joke and occasionally tenuous in terms of story(loved the concept I will admit and on the most part it did work very well) it is very enjoyable with great lead performances in particular. 8/10 Bethany Cox

An average movie

Honestly, it has been a while since I have seen this flick but when I was a kid, I thought it was pretty cool. Sure, it was nothing really amazing and the concept was actually quite moronic (like most comedies) but I thought it was still quite entertaining and it was at the time a massive box-office success. Furthermore, you have to admit that Arnold Schwarzenegger had some balls to play for the first time in a comedy and even though many other action stars followed his footsteps (Sylvester Stallone, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel,...), he is actually the only one who managed to deliver a comedy which was at least watchable (I donโ€™t count Bruce Willis because the guy was first a comic actor before turning to action stuff). Anyway, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito made an unexpected couple and most of the jokes were quite funny. 6 years, Schwarzenegger, DeVito and Reitman would work together again making โ€˜Juniorโ€™ but it would be a massive critical and commercial flop. Anyway, to conclude, even though it was no masterpiece whatsoever, I still think it is decent comedy and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
