Not one of Kurasawa's best but still a great film

I do love Akira Kurasawa's movies, especially Seven Samurai, Ran, Ikiru, Rashomon, Yojimbo, The Hidden Fortress and Throne of Blood. Sanjuro(sequel to Yojimbo) is not quite on the same level, but it is a fine film regardless and perhaps alongside The Hidden Fortress Kurasawa's most accessible film. It is very well made, with beautiful and sometimes epic scenery and superb camera work. Kurasawa directs with his usual flair, not as delicate as Ikiru, haunting as Yojimbo or as ambitious as Ran, but still highly impressive. The score is lively, the story is engaging, crisply-paced and always fun and the script is witty and tongue-in-cheek yet with a subtle edge. The characters are somewhat one-dimensional and not quite as identifiable as the titular character in Ikiru but still likable nonetheless, and Toshiro Mifune's lead performance is a very subtly fun one indeed. Overall, a great film but not my favourite from Kurasawa. 9/10 Bethany Cox

(OK) Kind of pre Akahige (Redbeard), with a whimsical samurai saving lige of impetuos young ones. I like Mifune/Sanjuro beaing embarrasses and angry becuase he acuases too many deaths. And, yeah, nice ideas the camelias as signals...

Sanjuro

The theme of the movie shows us a vagabond samurai, roaming free, offered to one or another clan that is in his gait and roads, according to their own desires or needs coyuntarales survival, yes always safeguarding justice, honor and the well curb abusers.

But if something has gone down in history "Sanjuro" is thanks to legendary final duel of the film in it, protagonist and antagonist are challenged in a bout that at all different from those appearing in the Westerns of the time. Well, a device failure that spilled the blood of the loser that originated after the pit had a Katana pressure expulsion of red liquid which was used as blood. The show was so spectacular that remained in the final version of the film. But that's not all. One failure inspired the movies, and anime series coming to use the same resource: blood oozing wounds disproportionately. So, and if only for this frikada mythical Sanjuro becomes a milestone for chambaras lover, manga, anime and in short, the whole Japanese culture in general.
