True Memoirs of an International Assassin review

Posted : 7 years, 5 months ago on 12 November 2016 08:05

When I saw the trailer for this I was reminded of a mix of Spy and The Do-Over. Both of which I thought wouldn't be all that great, but they ended up surprising me. This however looked like it could be rather intriguing. At least the main cast is pretty cool. Oh I actually really like the director Jeff Wadlow with Cry Wolf, Never Back Down, and Kick-Ass 2. This seems to be Jeff Morris' first go at writing though. We shall see if this is as funny as I hope.

Okay that was pretty darn good. It has some great action, good comedy, nice twists, and a pretty fun soundtrack. I found myself laughing quite a bit throughout. I loved that they had familiar music that was in Spanish form. The whole writer scenario reminded of the horror movie Hush from earlier in the year. That was also a pretty good film if you haven't seen it. I liked all the scenes that dealt with the story he was writing and such like that. Anyways this kept me invested from beginning to end. I was always interested to see what would happen next. It was also surprisingly brutal at times for a Kevin James film which I thought was cool. The ending was a nice touch too.

I really enjoyed the characters here. My favorites were Juan and of course Rosa. I did think everyone played their parts nicely or at least amusingly. A few were a bit silly, but I mean it is a comedy so take that into consideration. It was fun to see Kevin James in an action lead role.

It's a pretty enjoyable action comedy with a dash of mystery mixed in. It does make you wonder at times which I liked. The action was pretty good. I do like the idea of having more heavy set people playing action roles. It is an intriguing spin on things. The jokes are good and even a bit fresh although it has it's fair share of typicality to it. I suggest checking it out for sure.
