A man is flying a small plane with a young boy taking him to his uncle's place and experiences engine trouble. While landing on a Mexican beach the pilot is injured. so the boy wanders off looking for help, becoming lost, while the pilot waits and then takes off in the repaired plane hoping to find help to search for the boy. Meanwhile, the boy encounters two Mexican children on a quest to their grandmother's home with their caretaker chasing them, and together they try solve their troubles on a trek through the Baja desert.
