A good movie

Posted : 9 years, 3 months ago on 15 February 2015 06:33

I already saw this movie but, since it was a while back, I thought I might as well rewatch it with my wife. I remember it fairly well, back then, 2011 was supposed to be huge for Channing Tatum but, eventually, all the movies he made were either some critical or some commercial failures ('The Dilemma', 'The Eagle', '10 Years' and 'Haywire'). However, he got his revenge in 2012 when he really ruled the box-office. Indeed, before '21 Jump Street' and 'Magic Mike' got some solid reviews and became fairly successful at the box-office, it actually all started with this romantic feature which scored better than everyone expected at the time. Well, I was pretty sure my wife would like the damned thing but I have to admit I was actually surprised by how much more I enjoyed it the 2nd time around. Indeed, the whole concept was interesting and I thought it was actually fairly well developed. Another thing I enjoyed was Leo himself who was probably one of the nicest male characters I have seen in such a romantic drama and I think Channing Tatum probably gave here his best performance so far. Rachel McAdams was also pretty good and they had a lot of chemistry together. And yet, the masterstroke with this movie was that, even though this couple was extremely cute, even though Tatumโ€™s character was really patient and obviously still completely in love, she didnโ€™t miraculously recover her memory and, as a result, the only option was that they eventually broke up which was sad but so much more realistic. Sure, the damned thing was still not perfect though and the whole idea of the 'evil' parents was a rather weak. In fact, I think the whole thing would have been fine without this unnecessary twist. I mean, right from the start, she was asking why she got so mad with her parents in the first place and while it could have been explained much earlier, they conveniently waited to tell this for as long as possible until it was needed to move on the plot. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was maybe nothing great, I thought it was still a decent romantic feature and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

A love story without a Chemistry

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 25 August 2013 05:58

If I be totally honest here, I have to tell that I have a thing for Romantic Comedies. I mean I love them but too bad there are very few films that actually fits the bill these days. Either the story will be ridiculously stupid or the narrative will be too uneven.

The Vows suffers dwelling on a single line plot with nothing much happening around it. Based on a true yet oddly familiar story The Vow starts and ends well, but it is the middle part that does not fit in. The film is all about the moments of impact which unfortunately never comes. The narrative drags in many places and sadly barring one scene hardly there is anything stimulating.

So riding on a predictable story and even more predictable narrative The Vow relies too much on the lead pair to salvage some love and honestly Tatum and McAdums makes the movie really watchable however the story never allows them to generate some chemistry.

So all in all a decent Rom com with a charming lead, not a very encouraging material I know but probably you wont regret watching the happy go lucky story on a lazy afternoon.

Half and Half

The Vow seemed like a love story that had everything going for it. A tragedy, a "hot" dude, and a pretty girl. The movie starts out great, it's fun, it's loving, and it just seemed like my girlfriend and I were into it. There were laughs, and some great spots of romance. But after a while it lost touch, and it just wasn't doing it for me. The story fell apart, the delivery wasn't there it seemed like it just fell apart, and was just a blah average boring movie. Channing Tatum had some improvements in the movie, but still had some really bad moments. The supporters were good as well. The movie started off well, but fell apart just as well as it started

The Vow review

This movie was one that supposed me from the start and one that I actually loved. The theme was one that showed loved can conquer all. I would like she said in the movie, if I could find the love you have for me I would be lucky. I am not sure how this story is true but it is a feel good but gut wrenching affair. You had to feel for his guy and the love of his life.
