Something To Be Learned

Posted : 11 years, 8 months ago on 12 September 2012 02:43

Millions, two huge stars, a director with a reputation and a fictional sounding name, and of course, Venice! Nothing works, nothing! The chemistry between Depp and Jolie is virtually non existent. She is dressed in ridiculous, supposedly elegant, gowns but she looks as if she's wearing costumes. Remember Audrey Hepburn? She was never worn by her dresses, she was ahead. The dialog is not to be believed - Julian Fellowes is listed among the writers but, I can't believe it's true. The meet-cute on the train, done so beautifully in th past by a variety of directors and stars, falls flat here, flat! Johnny Depp is one of my favorites but here he looks puffy and detached. How can anyone managed to make Depp look bad? I don't know but they did. Jolie is a big star but here, she seems unused to wear dresses. I couldn't believe her walk through Venice. "Hot to Trot" comes o mind. Imagine, Audrey Hepburn walking purposely through Venice in a ball gown. Or Carole Lombard, or Grace Kelly, or Loren or Deneuve, Gene Tirney, Kay Kendall... I can think of dozens. This was really bad. The only saving grace a running joke that has Depp's character, not speaking Italian, speaks Spanish to the Italians and the Italians respond in Spanish, specially the scene with Christian De Sica (son of Vittorio) in which De Sica replays "De nada" So, the lesson learned is the eternal cliché. Not everything that glitters is gold. And this one, from a distance, glittered, big time

Totally predictable, with bad writing, "The Tourist" is a flat, barely watchable movie. I suffered through it because I was watching it with a friend...and because of Johnny Depp. But, I knew how it was all going to turn out right from the start, it is THAT predictable, and it wasn't even good enough to really have to suffer through.

A chilly movie, not by the slowly scenes, silent but for being merely expository and not enfolding.
And even with such predictability, I couldn’t even catch a lot while I watched. The plot doesn’t involves that much, the couple didn’t care. Worth much by Johnny Depp, the gorgeous scenes in Paris and Venice and some insights that I realized it when the story ended and I was wondering what I had seen. Anyway, it is worthwhile to spend time.

Some much potential, poorly delievered

Posted : 13 years ago on 13 May 2011 04:53

So much hype around this movie. With Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie together in a film. It came out with tons of bad reviews, well lets just add to it, because this movie bombed out. There is a lot of potential in this movie and the story. The delivery of the story went no where. They tried to throw twists at you that didn't make any sense at all. The writing of this movie is just plan dull. No quotable lines, and nothing really quick and edgy. Paul Bettany almost saved the movie with another good performance. Depp and Jolie on the other hand were just dull. All Depp did was pretty much ask questions and yell "Elise" a few times. Jolie just stood there and tried to look pretty. I predicted some parts of the movie, and when you can predict a movie its not worth your time. I dont understand the Golden Globe nominations at all, its just to dull for a nomination. Its not the worst movie, but its one of those movies that could have been so much better than expected I could have easily fell asleep if I wanted to.

A movie that looks like a perfume commercial, beautiful and well dressed people but nothing more. Almost plastic. Even actors looks like mannequin. I think it's the worst performance for both Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. Scenes are absurd and the whole story doesn't work. I really screamed at the ending.

WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!!! I've NEVER in my life felt so strongly about such a crappy piece of garbage. I tolerate just about anything in movies, but that was just bad beyond belief. Don't bother with that one.
If there could be a 0 star, I'd give it.
I wasn't even sure whether it was a comedy or not, but in any case, there wasn't even anything funny about it. That's 100 minutes of my life I want back but can't.

I found myself disappointed when I discovered this movie was a remake. This feeling didn't change after seeing it, not only for this, but because it ended up not being worth it the few bucks I wasted to see it. Predictable, poor acting and directing.

An average movie

I already saw this movie (In fact, I even saw it in the movie theater when it was released) but, since it was a while back, I thought I might as well check it out again. In fact, I remember very well when this movie was coming out and there was a huge buzz about the damned thing which was quite understandable. Indeed, it was starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie who were, back in those days, the 2 biggest movie stars in the world and it was directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck whose previous movie, ‘Das Leben der Anderen’, was heralded as one of the best movies released during the last 10 years. However, eventually, it was rather poorly received, the critics were not really positive and, indeed, I’m afraid I would have to agree with them. At least, even though it was nothing amazing, I thought it was a decent watch above all thanks to Johnny Depp who was still able to provide an enjoyable performance back in those days. However, I was still amazed by how sleep inducing the whole thing was, especially when you rewatch it. Indeed, it was nothing original whatsoever and, honestly, I thought that the story was actually rather boring. On top of that, none of the characters was developed whatsoever but, even worse, none of them was really entertaining and/or interesting. Since then, both Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie made more headlines about their respective divorces then for their acting work. Jolie doesn’t act much these days and she had actually the ambition to become a director but it didn’t exactly really work out after all. For Depp, the situation is even worse, his behavior has been increasingly erratic, he got involved in many misguided lawsuits and some say that this acting career might be now finished which would be a shame. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, to conclude, I guess the damned thing was mildly entertaining but this movie was still probably one of the most disappointing released in 2010.

Just my kind of suspense with a good twist in the end,and some laughs along the way.
Good chemistry between Depp and Jolie.

Great movie! Angelina and Johnny were wonderful together! Beautiful scenery of Venice in this film.
