The Notebook review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2022 04:45

I didn't see the movie or read the book until fairly recently, and to be honest I wasn't expecting to love either. The book I fell in love with immediately, it was beautifully written and honest with one of the most heartfelt endings I have yet to read in a book. The film is every bit as good. I have seen movies that have moved me massively(ie. The Elephant Man), however The Notebook for me is the only one this decade that completely touched me. It is wonderful to look at, has a lovely soundtrack, a touching story and a great script. The direction also makes sure that the film hits all the emotional buttons, which it does. Even the happy moments made me cry tears. The acting is great not only from Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams(who are great together as well) but from Joan Allen, Gena Rowlands, James Marsden and the old pro James Garner. In conclusion, very touching and a must watch whether you like the genre or not. 10/10 Bethany Cox

A good movie

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I was quite eager to check it out again. Since this movie has been released, it has become a classic in the romantic genre and I think it definitely deserves its reputation. What I loved the most about this movie was the fact that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were actually quite pitch-perfect  and they had such a great chemistry. Eventually, it is hardly surprising that Golsing would turn out to be one of the best actors of his generation. Concerning the other part  involving some older version of the characters played by James Garner and Gena Rowlands, I’m still not sure if it was really necessary but it still worked thanks to some really solid performances delivered by  Garner and Rowlands.  Eventually, the only thing preventing this movie from becoming really amazing was the fact that the story was in fact terribly generic and, without the cast involved, I don’t think I would have cared much about the damned thing. Another issue was that, following the success of this movie, they would give us no less than 8 other adaptations of Nicholas Sparks's books but, unfortunately, none of them turned out to be really worth a look. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of a terribly unoriginal and predictable story, I still have a weak spot for the damned thing and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Effective love story combined with selfhelp plot of Garner making alzheimer(amnesia for old ladies in melodrama)patient Rowlands, remember their own love story by telling it as a novel. Too manipulative, corny some moments, aggresive in osme other moments...

Touching

Posted : 11 years, 8 months ago on 20 August 2012 06:27

After much pestering from my wife (I've been urged to say "gentle persuading" instead but those with Y chromosomes know which word I mean) I saw this as part of the "date-night" package deal thing with the fire going and blankets and so forth.

I wasn't expecting to be drawn in as much as I was and although the story has some odd moments I was able to keep it together for the touching ones. Until the very end, that is when my "winter hayfever" suddenly struck.

A great film for lovers.

The Notebook review

Well, I am one of those romantic ... and I much prefer a romance to a romantic comedy (anytime!) then, so was predisposed to like the movie. Of course I heard much about it because it is the typical movie that when people talk about romance, someone mentions the conversation: "You like it? Have you seen The Notebook?" The story is too beautiful and the romantic cliches are all there (thankfully) because the novel is to be romantic, it is to have remarkable dialogues, is to have beautiful scenes, etc.. Not to mention how I cried during the 2-hour movie, it seems that nothing else matters but the happiness of two characters on television. It's over, and and I was still crying ten minutes more, nor could he comment on the scenes without thrill me again ... ahahah (I'm hopeless, I know). Those who like novels, have to see The Notebook (it took me to see, because I'm stupid). I have a list of novels to watch (or read), but I better take a break, because life without these cinematographic, would be depressing!

Tragic and inspiring film but very overrated...

What a beautiful, inspiring and very heart wrenching film this really is. It is beautiful because it shows what romance really is and how it can affect peopls lives. The romance between Allie and Noah was quite similar in my opinion to Jack and Roses romance in Titanic because Noah is a really poor man who makes his first-wrecked house into a complete mansion and he falls in love with a rich good girl like Allie which is what Rose really is apart from that she isnt a good girl (you know what I mean). It was very inspiring indeed because obviously of the romance but it was the relationships between the characters and the beautiful scenes which would fill your heart. The one scene that did make me feel really inspired by this film was the scene where Noah and Allie take a ride in a boat along a river feeding the ducks. That is a real romantic place which brings out a lot of beauty that some of us in this world dont seem to notice. It is really heart wrenching aswell as beautiful because they go separate ways when they decided to go different ways because Allies parents didnt accept Noah.

Ryan Gosling delivers a good performance as Noah. Ryan truly shows Noahs true colours after he made a bad impression at the start of when he met Allie. He looked like a typical tramp and a really nice attractive young man. His acting was very emotional but wasnt quite powerful enough I am afraid to say. Rachel McAdams delivers a better performance as Allie. She was a really torn young woman who couldnt decide who her true love really is between Noah and her new fiancé Lon. Rachels performance was both emotional and powerful but was different compared to Ryans performance. I would say that Rachels performance is more powerful than emotional which is probably the reason why I liked her performance more.

The direction was good but I think it tried to take a lot of direction reputation from Titanic which was directed by James Cameron. I thought this because I think it tries to make the physical emotions just like Titanic did but I found that it couldnt quite do that. The script is really good and is quite easy to adapt because The Notebook is a novel.

I havent seen Ryan Goslings Oscar nominated performance in Half Nelson and I havent seen his Golden Globe nominated performance in Lars And The Real Girl yet either which should be good. So basically this was the first film I have seen Ryan Gosling in before. It is almost the same for Rachel McAdams too but I have seenWedding Crashers and she was in that aswell as The Notebook. I have to say that this is a really loving romantic film that is almost like a teen dream romantic film. I know that it is for adults too but I do think that it is more of a teen romantic film. It almost reached my favourite romantic films list and is probably the second best romantic film of 2004 (first being Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind).

When it had just started, I could swear it would be only another typical teenager movie where they cannot be together. How mistaken I was! Even tough it is a romantic history (and I'm not really into love stories), it had one of the best movies I could ever see. Everything about it is perfect - the images, the way the actors go well together, the history, the clothing.
It had everything in it. You will laugh your butt off one time and, five minutes later, you'll be crying your heart out.

It is, hands down, the movie that is worth every single second of it, which is worth watching a thousand times over. And I bet that, even a thousand times later, you won't get tired of it. You'll only admire it, more and more.

The notebook

The first time I saw this movie I cried. And I don't cry a lot. Only when I really have to and this was a time like that. I liked that it didn't feel like a typical "hollywoodmovie". The battle between the good and the bad, the rich and the poor is an obvious genre but it's not cheesy at all, on the contrary, it makes me think that this kind of love that is shown in the movie is not impossible to feel. Allie and Noah (Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling)got their fairytale, just how the audience wanted it, and for you who haven't seen it... it couldn't end better! So prepare yourself for a cryfeast.

I think this is one of the few romantic comedies that guys admit to liking. Every guy I know who watched it had a mysterious case of "allergies" at the end. That's a slam dunk right there ladies:)
