An underrated movie

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 25 October 2011 09:53

Even though this movie is nowadays pretty much forgotten, there was a pretty good buzz around it when it was released so I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, I wasnโ€™t disappointed. Indeed, if you wonder if Pierce Brosnan is a good actor or not, you shouldn't really check his Bond flicks (which are fine, by the way) but you should check this underrated/unknown gem. In my opinion, Brosnan gave here, easily, the best performance of his career, seriously , and he managed to portray a hit-man who is, at the same time, lethal but also a terrible loser. As his sparring partner, you have Greg Kinnear , basically playing the straight man, who gave also a top-notch performance. Together, they basically rocked the house and I thought they were just quite hilarious. Honestly, I have never seen a movie giving such a funny, sad and refreshing look on this profession. It was above all thanks to the directing which was pretty good and gave enough room for both actors to shine throughout the whole thing. Eventually, it is a real shame that Pierce Brosnan doesnโ€™t get more often the opportunity to display his skills like this (another fine example is โ€˜The Tailor of Panama', another underrated gem which you should definitely check out as well). To conclude, I really enjoyed this flick and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Pierce Brosnan's work.
