I remember as if it was yesterday. Back then, when I saw 'Amores Perros' in the theater, I was really impressed by Gael Garcia Bernal and I wondered what will happen with this young and promising actor. Now, we are 10 years later but he unfortunately never really broke through in my opinion. At least, for the mainstream audience. Indeed, he still did take part in some very interesting indie flicks and this movie is a perfect example. Indeed, it is a little movie, quite unknown and underrated but Bernal gave here quite an amazing performance. As his sparring partner, there was against him another amazing and underrated actor, William Hurt who did a great job as well. Furthermore, the directing was really effective and the story was rather messed up (not in a bad way though), heartbreaking and actually rather fascinating. Basically, it is rather bleak drama with some really screwed up characters and if you only like happy endings and a story which doesn’t conclude with some loose ends, you should probably avoid this one. Anyway, to conclude, in my opinion, it is an underrated and rather obscure gem and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
