Everett has some nice touches on Wilde, when his words and wit hists facts, hits Bossie or Robbie or his wifep's death. And his acting is ok

An average movie

This movie wasn't exactly a high priority for me but I still ended up watching it with my filmclub. Well, to be honest, I actually had a rather hard time to really care for this flick. I mean, I always had a weak spot for Rupert Everett who was basically born to play this character and Oscar Wilde was one of the wittiest writers that ever lived so the whole thing definitely had some potential. In my opinion, the biggest mistake they made was to focus on the last years of Oscar Wilde's life. I still wonder why the makers thought they should focus on this specific time period. I mean, after William Shakespeare, Wilde must have been the most famous English writer that ever lived but, at the time, the guy had stopped to write and, instead, was basically drinking himself to death which was hardly entertaining to behold. In fact, instead of feeling sorry for Wilde, this movie had actually the reverse effect on me as I felt slightly mad at him because he could have lived in France with a low profile, trying to write some more but, apparently, he basically gave up and slowly killed himself which was obviously a huge waste. Anyway, to conclude, even though it was slightly disappointing, I still think it is worth a look, especially if you like Rupert Everett or if you are interested in Oscar Wilde.
