An average movie

I wasnโ€™t sure what to expect from this flick but since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even though I really have a weak spot for thrillers dealing with con artists, to be honest, this one turned out to be rather disappointing after all. The main issue I had is that I figured out most of the supposedly 'surprising' twists way too easily when, in fact, I'm usually not good at all at this exercise. Indeed, right from the start, it was so obvious that Roy Courtnai was a con man and, yet, they waited way too long to make it official. Sure, it was a good idea to show him scamming someone before the story really started but there was no reason to drag it like they did. Even more problematic was the fact was that I figured out also right away that Betty was also conning him and it was probably what really ruined the movie for me. Indeed, from this point, you just have to wait through the whole duration until Roy, a supposedly seasoned master con artist, finally figured it out himself (which he actually never did as Betty herself revealed her plan to him) which was obviously not really rewarding. I have to admit that I didn't see it coming that she actually knew him all the way back when they were kids in Germany but this turn of events was just so preposterous and, therefore, hardly entertaining either. And, yet, the damned thing was not bad though, above all, because it was a pure joy to see such great actors like Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren at the top of their game and playing the leads for once. Indeed, it is such a rare thing to see main characters being played by older actors and these two masters definitely made the most of it. Anyway, to conclude, even if the story itself was rather weak, I still think it is worth a look though thanks to the amazing actors involved.
