An average movie

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 24 August 2016 12:16

When I saw this movie, I was pretty young and back then, I thought it was really neat to see to such big stars like Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt in the same movie and, only therefore, I probably gave the whole thing a few extra points more than it actually deserved. I wasnโ€™t aware that the production on this movie was in fact a huge mess and, as a result, it was rather poorly received when it was released. Indeed, apparently, they couldnโ€™t agree on the script which was changed constantly and, at some point, Brad Pitt even wanted to drop the whole thing but he was contractually obliged to remain on board. Still, in spite of it flaws, the whole thing was still fairly entertaining, above all thanks to the charisma of the 2 big stars involved, even if Brad Pitt was not always really convincing as an Irishman.ย The saddest thing is that, a year later, Alan J. Pakula would die in a car accident meaning that he would end up a rather solid career with such a hot mess.ย ย Anyway, to conclude, even though I might have been generous with my rating here, I thought it was still a decent watch and I think it is worth a look.ย

The Devil's Own review

Wow.. I expected this movie to have a higher average rating, in fact only a few of my friends have rated this. I say ignore the average rating and watch this, it really is an amazing movie.

I wouldn't exactly classify this as an action film, more a drama or thriller. I liked the way it combined different themes together - one minute it's a shootout packed with action and the next is a heartwarming scene that's like a true drama film. Brad Pitt plays a top Irish IRA terrorist who escapes to New York and disguises himself using another name. When he first comes to NY he knows that he will be staying with a family, what he doesn't know is that he will be living with a cop and his family. But still he goes on as planned, keeping hopeful that the cop doesn't find out who he really is.

Harrison Ford was pretty much himself, and I have to say that apart from his earlier roles, he's never really surprised me with his acting skills. So I didn't expect anything huge and what I got back wasn't that bad, just not amazing at all. I have to mention the last scene though, it was really powerful for him and that scene was perfect. Brad Pitt again was brilliant, but this film didn't really do much for him unfortunately as it wasn't that popular.

This is a nice movies that although it may not be a happy ending, it leaves you with a nice feeling and comfort. I really recommend you see this, hopefully you'll like it as much as I did.
