A good movie

Posted : 11 years, 1 month ago on 30 March 2013 03:59

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back, I thought I might as well check it out again. To be honest, the first time around, I thought that it was one hell of a overhyped movie. Don't misunderstand me, I thought it was a decent fantastic thriller but not nearly as good as many viewers seemed to think. The point is that there was an interesting time-traveling concept behind the whole thing but that was exactly the issue here. When most of the fans would argue that this concept was really awesome, to me, it barely made sense with some huge plot holes. However, the second time around, I have to admit that the concept was actually more interesting than I remembered and it was actually neat that the final solution was for the main character to actually give up on the love of his life. I was actually more bothered by the first scenes involving Evan as a young kid and as a teenager as these scenes were terribly clunky. However, it did start to work much better as soon as Ashton Kutcher got involved. Indeed, it was quite interesting to see Kutcher in something different than his usual comedies and he did a really decent job. Seriously, it remains by far his best movie and it is actually rather surprising that he never tried something else in this genre since it might be the only well regarded picture he has made so far but that's his loss, I guess. Concerning Amy Smart, I think it was the first movie I saw with her and I thought she was quite charming but her career never really took off and she always remained a B star. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, it is actually an entertaining mind-f*ck and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

The Butterfly Effect

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT wields a strong narrative and solid characters but faults on its execution. The alternate endings (see DVD) are perhaps more satisfying than the final cut. The screenplay often felt afraid to delve into deeper dialogue, which meant the film lacked the push it needed to create secure entertainment.

Starring Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart, Eric Stoltz.

A pleasant surprise

To be honest, I do not like Ashton Kutcher. But I remember seeing the preview for this movie and going, hm, that doesn't look too bad. But I stayed away.

When I finally watched it on TV, I was completely blown away. Very well done. Possibly one of the best modern thrillers since Hitchcock's death. Some of the ideas weren't fully explored, but they did an excellent job with what they did explore, given the time constraints on a feature-length film.

By the end, I'd totally forgotten the main character was Ashton Kutcher. And that's a very good thing, if I can forget who the actor is and start to enjoy the film in spite of that. And the ending was perfect. Not happy, but not sad, either. Just a touch melancholy. Perfect. I highly recommend it for those who don't mind a bit of time travel, and like thrillers.

Some people have said this movie is powerful...It effected the rest of my life from the age of 10 (When I first watched it) And it inspires me still at the age of 14...I love this movie.

I can see a hurricane.

I was totally taken by storm when I watched this film. I only bought it on DVD because the deal was 5 for ยฃ30 and there wasn't much to choose from.

I got round to watching it and was totally surprised. The story appealled to me because the main character Evan was righteous in every action he made. He sacrificed everything to save his family and friends from horrible fates.

I've always wondered about what would happen if I changed my past at integral points and after watching this film I can see why and how it could be a problem. There is no constant when you change how things went.

I wasn't very happy about the cast to be honest but the story was what really mattered to me which is why I will always cherish this film. I often get ripped for liking this film (because of Kutcher) but that won't stop me liking it.

The Butterfly Effect review

I agree with Sean in that this is an amazing movie.

Every action has a reaction, but you never know what the reaction will be until the action has taken place. But what if you don't like the reaction? What if you could rewind make a different action to cause a different reaction?

When it comes to the lives of your friends, your family and even yourself, wouldn't you want to keep rewinding in order for everything to play out right?

As you are watching this movie, many parts of it won't make sense. However as it plays out in it's entirety everything drops into place.

A must see!

Amazing Movie..

Unlike letica! and ForgivenForSure I disagree and think that The Butterfly Effect was an amazing movie that defiantly breaks the mold on time-travel from Donnie Darko. Donnie Darko shows one thread of time travel and doesn't really expand on it and you don't get to understand the full meaning of traveling back in time and how one thing can change everything. The Butterfly Effect shows this fully, how changing one situation can change your whole life. Anyone who says the plot didn't make much sense needs to sit down and watch the movie again and really think about why everything happens.
Overall a great movie to see, but one you will have to think about while watching, however the feeling of figuring it out at the end is truely amazing. A must see.

Personally, I did not care for this movie. The plot line was strange and didn't make much sense. Another movie that I preferred more that this that has somewhat of the same plot would be Frequency.
