The Tao of Steve Reviews

I used to like Romance movies. Then I realized they all follow the same formula:

1. Two people who would make an unlikely couple meet.
2. They flirt and there are complications to them getting together.
3. Sexual tension.
4. Conflict--oh noes! Will they ever see that they're made for each other?
5. Resolution. They fall in love.
6. End

This movie follows the same formula. However, instead of the same old pretty girl and hot guy, we have a fat part-time kindergarten teacher and a smart opera set designer. Sure, the opera designer, Syd, is thin, but she's not a perfect movie diva. Dex, despite his slacker lifestyle and his girth, is a hit with the ladies. But not with Syd. Of course, like I said, this is a Romance movie, so you know what's going to happen.

The thing that sets this apart is the humor and the dialogue. The things that Dex says are interesting and watching him change feels very real.

The characters are real. I know people like these people. It was fun to watch and I recommend it to anyone who thinks they can't watch a Romance movie anymore. It's a good one.
