A good movie

Posted : 6 years, 7 months ago on 4 October 2017 08:03

Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this movie, I was quite eager to check it out. Eventually, it turned out to be a seriously weird movie and, to be honest, I have to admit that it was rather tough to handle something so bizarre only 2 days after watching ‘mother!’. Anyway, in this case, they went for some kind of strange mix between a survival feature and a zombie flick and, even though this mix was very often completely preposterous, I was amazed about how well the damned thing actually worked. Basically, it started out with the main character using a corpse as a speedboat to get away from a deserted island so, at least, you have to admit that the makers were obviously trying to do something new with the genre . And, yet, even if all the super-power thing was actually more distracting than really entertaining, there was still some really interesting ideas about loneliness and how we interact with each other. Indeed, as a result, the main character manages to have his most meaningful relationship with a corpse which was at the same time so sad but also quite inspiring. Basically, we are so conscious and overthink everything that we often struggle to have a genuine contact with anyone but our mind is so complex and developed that we can manage to create the most intricate world and, in our mind, we are able to have the most incredible relationships. Anyway, to conclude, even if it wasn’t really a masterpiece, it was still pretty good and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in experimental movies.

Gross but has its charm

[English Version]

I would say that movie suprises me when it first came out, at first seems like a much simpler and comical version of "Cast Away", but although it is a comedy, for the most part it stands out for its dramatic scenes. Both Hank and Manny have a good characterization and share a excellent chemistry on screen, making them a very memorable duo.

At the same time, the story is no disappointing, mainly highlighting as it is raising existential questions of life itself to give an example, the past of Hank, the questions that Manny has about life itself, with somewhat profound scenes, along with a more than satisfactory and beautiful ending that concludes all the questions that the movie had.

If we talk about the visuals, for a movie that costs only 3 million into making their are pretty amazing: The acting made the characters believe to the audience having good nuances, the visual effects stand out when it comes to the surreal moments, the make-up in the case of Manny character it's amazing, all this along side with a soundtrack that could be considered even original for what is accustomed in the world of cinema.

Its main fault is the humor, since it's mostly the typical eschatological humor that isn't to much elaborated, which probably not many would like it (been his stuff like fart jokes, puke joke, erection jokes, poop jokes, and so much more) and other been simple Slapstick humor. Also that most of movie it's only focused in the main duo leaving the rest of the cast pretty simple by comparision.

But, aside from that, it's by far one the most interesting films that I watched in 2016 and I totally recommend, since it seen very underrated.

Final Score: 7/10

Nota final: 7/10

Swiss Army Man review

Posted : 7 years, 1 month ago on 5 April 2017 04:14

I'm a bit late on seeing this one sadly. I have only ever seen the ending scene of this because it was playing at the theater I work at. I know I know I should have seen it while it was there. I just can't seem to really want to stick around and watch movies at work when I'm off anymore lol. So anyways I saw it on Amazon and knew it was finally time to see what all the fuss was about. To be honest I'm not a huge Paul Dano fan, but with Daniel Radcliffe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead you can count me in. Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan did only one other film of which I've never heard of. So let's see what this offers us.

This has to be one of the grossest, most absurd, and yet extremely beautiful buddy films I have ever seen. I actually was quite impressed with Paul Dano who I typically think is just an average actor. The chemistry between him and Daniel Radcliffe was superb as well. I never realized that private parts and fart jokes could make for such a powerful and well done story. I saw someone compare this to Weekend at Bernie's and Cast Away which I wholeheartedly agree with. How many ways can someone think of to use a body for? Well this movie answers that with some of the wackiest ideas you probably wouldn't even dream of unless you are as quirky as the two Dans who made this. It's somehow still a very artsy beautiful looking movie despite having such gross moments throughout. There are moments and lines that will stick with you long after the movie is over. The ending was oddly beautiful and satisfying.

This is one of those movies that you have to keep an open mind about. I can understand why people hated it, but there are so many reasons to love it too. The acting was incredible. This movie changed my feeling about Paul Dano's acting skills. While it heightened the awesomeness of Daniel Radcliffe. That dude just can't stay away from the weirdo roles which is what makes him so interesting. Don't let the anatomy jokes scare you away from a story that's actually really well told. I highly recommend this since it's so much more than the crudeness onscreen.

Swiss Army Man review

Judging by the ratings this seems like one of those films that you either love or hate, there's not much in between. It really depends on how much you can tolerate gross slapstick humor bathed in arthouse aesthetics. Usually the two do not blend well, more like oil and water. But in the case of Swiss Army Man, I think the Daniels have crafted a truly unique (yes, it has flourishes of Cast Away and Weekend At Bernie's) experience on the arthouse, B-movie front. The film is endlessly creative and innovative, making great use of Radcliffe's corpse. It's crazy enough to take you out of your comfort zone, but directed so impeccably that you know you're in good hands. Dano and Radcliffe deliver the wackiest buddy comedy we've seen in ages, sure to become a cult classic if it hasn't reached that already. Highly recommended for fans of artsy B-movies peppered with gross humor and endless fart jokes.
